Paradise Gardens is a FREE festival held over the Bank Holiday Weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May 2008 in Victoria Park, London. Based upon the the Victorian idea that parks were pleasure gardens where the most thrilling activities of the day were on offer for families to enjoy. Paradise Gardens has updated this idea for the 21st Century, offering artforms, stages and activities for audiences of all ages to enjoy.
The Paradise Stage plays host to a vibrant mix of styles and grooves programmed by Continental Drifts to celebrate London music with global roots with Soul, Latin, Balkan and Gypsy Beats, Ska, Beatboxing, and more represented.
Artists confirmed for the weekend include Omar headlining the Paradise Stage with support from Alabama 3 Unplugged, Ska Cubano, Dr Das, Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee and Guests, Rhythms of the City, Saravah Soul, Grand Union Orchestra presenting Spirit Of Carnival, Max Pashm Band, Last Man Standing, B-loco, Ballalouda, Katy Carr, Papayera, Back To The Planet, and Brick Lane Boogie Boys, plus the best in urban dance performance from Hackney's Avant Garde Dance.
The festival will also have circus premieres and street theatre from No Fit State Circus and Laika/Time Circus. The Tea Dance Tent features dance from the lindy hop and tango to rock and roll, whilst The Victoria Village Fete showcases local artisans and traders as well as a creative play area for children.
Other attractions include Carters Steam Fair, side shows, and installations including the Bar of Ideas, as well as food from around the world, craft markets, licensed bars, and more.
