The Molten Festival is a new festival bringing celebrity acts, top local talent and free arts activities to the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham from Friday 26th September until Sunday 2nd November 2008.

Molten Festival 2008 includes accessible arts activities, workshops, outdoor spectacular events, fireworks, giant mechanical birds, human Catherine wheels and bandstand music. In addition to the street theatre and free events, Molten Festival 2008 will present four massive variety shows at the Broadway Theatre, Barking, taking place each Sunday throughout October.

These events, titled a Month of Sundays, are variety shows starting at 7pm with internationally acclaimed performers and top local talent. Plus, each night will see the world premiere of a new short play commissioned from Nabokov Theatre written especially for each show. The line-ups for each show are as follows:

Sunday 5th October: Norma Waterson, Martin Carthy & Chris Parkinson, She'Koyokh, Shappi Khorsandi, Afrikan Boy, and Barking & Dagenham Youth Dance.

Sunday 12th October: Dr Das, Hui Ling, Reginald D Hunter, East London Chorus, and the Broadway Youth Theatre.

Sunday 19th October: The Blockheads, Trippplicate, Clare Teal, Bantu African Orchestra, and Shafeek Ibrahim.

Sunday 26th October: The Imagined Village, Arthur Smith, The London Gypsy Orchestra, and Werlitzer Belly by the students of Performing Arts at Barking College.

Tickets are priced at £17/£15 or £45 for all four shows for with a special Month of Sundays pass and can be purchased at The Broadway Theatre, Barking Box Office on 020 8507 5607 or booked online by clicking here.

Other events include:
Friday 26 September: The Molten Festival kicks off with professional artists and entertainers dropping in on local schools, day centres and workplaces - encouraging people to get involved and discover their hidden talents through hands-on workshops and activities. Friday evening sees Barking Town Square play host to a pyrotechnic and musical spectacular. Once the Mayor presses the button at 7pm, lighting will illuminate the square, with acrobatic displays, local school children will take to the stage to dance and a fire-breathing dragon will be paraded through the town as dusk falls.

Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September: A free weekend of workshops held at venues across the borough. With carnival and circus schools, origami classes, storytelling, line dancing, poetry workshops, and the chance to make musical instruments out of recycled rubbish.

Throughout October: Music on the bandstand, street dancing, exhibitions in the gallery, free film screenings, street theatre and 'Molten hot spots' showcasing local talent all over the borough.

Sunday 2 November: Molten Festival Grand Finale at Abbey Green with a firework finale, live music, illuminated volcanoes and carnival atmosphere. a FREE event and family friendly.

Molten Festival 2008 is initiated by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham's Leisure and Arts Service. It is part of the Cultural Olympiad and London Open Rehearsal in partnership with Arts Council (England), Continental Drifts, the Gateway Boroughs, Emergency Exit Arts, and the Broadway Theatre, Barking.
