last updated : Tue 21st Aug 07 The Banbury Canalside Folk Festival takes place from 12th - 14th October 2007 at various venues around the town of Banbury in Oxfordshire including the Mill Arts Centre, the Town Hall, the General Foods Social Club and the Canalside itself. The line-up includes the following artists: Jacqui McShee’s Pentangle; The Eliza Carthy Band; Vin Garbutt; John Tams and Barry Coope; Steve Tilston; PJ Wright (Dylan Project) & Dave Pegg (Fairport Convention); and Crucible. In addition to the main acts, other supporting artists in concerts over the weekend will be QuickSilver and the Deb Sandland Trio (Deb & Ralph Sandland with Martin Green from Spank the Monkey) and musical comedy acts, Idiot and Friend (Les Barker & Keith Donnelly) and The Amazing Mr Smith. Sunday is Oxfordshire Folk and History Day, devoted to celebrating 1000 years of the formation of the County of Oxfordshire, as part of Oxfordshire 2007, with all-Oxfordshire artists. Magpie Lane will be headlining with medieval instruments, with Oxford Waits depicting the history of Oxfordshire from the civil war to modern times. Other events include ceilidhs (with Steamchicken on Friday at the Town Hall, and Tickled Pink on Saturday at the Social Club), a craft and trade fair during the day on Saturday (admission free), local bands showcase concerts, acoustic concerts, folk clubs, folk theatre, Morris dancing (outside of The Mill and around town), workshops, story telling, song and music sessions and singing boat trips on the canal. There will also be a French dance workshop, followed by a French dance with Moulin Bleu at lunchtime on Saturday and a final ceilidh with Oxfordshire-based The Old Mettle Dance Band on Sunday. After 1st September (subject to availability) season tickets will be £52, Friday evening only tickets - £20, Saturday all day tickets - £30 and Sunday daytime tickets - £18.
