Galloway's celtic/roots/world music festivals have been running twice-yearly in the spectacular hills of Scotland's Southern Uplands since 1998 with the World Ceilidh germinating from the well known Ceilidh Gall Gallowa' Spring festival. This year the festival has grown to four days - The Bo-Airgh stage will open the festival at 6pm Thursday and the music will continue right through until the early hours of Monday morning - a full extra day of music.
The first acts have been confirmed, with Capercaillie, Peatbog Faeries, Dreadzone, Zion Train, Lojo, Soothsayers, Sheelanagig, Orkestra del Sol, 3 Daft Monkeys, Tarantism, Mystery Juice, Shlomo, Luisito Quintero band, Molara, Banco De Gaia, Daevid Allen - The University Of Errors, and Talking Drum feat Kuda MATimba [Bhundu Boys]. More acts will be confirmed over the coming months.
The programme is also expected to include such delights as a Celtic fire spectacular; wind and solar powered cinema; street theatre; wind and solar powered sauna and hot showers; a healing yurt; workshops (many geared to kids), Greenwood Arts, circus skills, Tai Chi, belly dancing, celtic banner making and juggling. For children, the Kids' Marquee runs creative activities, culminating in a childrens' procession.
CAMPING AND FURTHER TICKET INFO
Camping is included in the ticket price but there is an extra charge for vehicles. The site is beside a river with stunning views of the Scottish landscape.
Concessions are available for students, the unemployed and over 60s although evidence will be requested on the gate and you will be charged the difference if you don't have it with you.
