Isle of Wight Festival 2005 review

Isle of Wight Festival Isle of Wight Festival 2005

That impressive music from the start of 2001 drifts over the audience, some of which are suitably attired in shell suits and burberry. A voice booms, “Are you ready to party like it’s 1986?” and the stage fills up with the many members of the Welsh rap outfit GLC. “From Newport to Newport, safe as f**k!”

They launch into ‘S**t to Me’ and those next to me that have never heard it before are in stitches, Newport Wales is in the house. ‘Half Man Half Machine’ gets the crowd with their hands in the air. For me however the jokes wearing a bit thin, they need some new material. ‘Roller Disco’ and ‘Guns Don’t Kill People Rappers Do’ gets more of the crowd moving and there are quite a few voices accompanying ‘21 Ounces’ and ‘You Knows I Loves You’.

The band are a bit unsure who is on the bill and also what day it is. What crazy lives they lead! They finish with ‘Your Mother’s Got A Penis’ and it’s a bit of fun in the sunset. Some of the audience tell me later that it was the highlight of the day, wonder if like me a year on they’ll still find a repeat performance so brilliant?
