Guildford Live 2001 reviews Wed 8th Aug 01 Never having seen Alabama 3 before, but having heard of them many times through friends, I was looking forward to their Friday set. The very slick looking Larry Love came onto the stage in a white hat, smart suit and mirror shades accompanied by all the other Love's who really gave a strong energised performance. The key motivator of the band was D. Wayne Love who's comic deep south American accent enthused the crowd to dance to their tunes. ![]() The band sounded reasonably good, with some rocking tunes which kept the audience happy. The most popular song was 'Mao Tse Chung Said' which had the crowds fists in the air in harmony with those of the band. Overall however, it felt as though the band was being supported by fans who'd travelled to see them particularly, rather than by the festival crowd generally. It was certainly at the front of the stage that the crowd were jumping, rather than further back. The band kept us all entertained though as they danced about on stage spreading love to all and sundry! review by Zoë photos by Neil Greenway
