Culture Club

Culture Club came onto the stage in a quiet fashion as the evening drew in on Saturday night. But they certainly didn't stay quiet as their big band pumped out some well remembered tunes from the 80's. Despite the odd shower from darkening sky's the crowd stayed on and enjoyed this great performance.

Culture Club

The band consisted of Mikey Craig, Roy Hay, Jon Moss and Boy George (they were actually billed as 'Culture Club with Boy George' and they were accompanied by a further guitarist and 3 superb backing vocalists). Boy George chatted away to the crowd immaculately turned out in a long dark jacket and tall dark hat. He really built rapport with the crowd as the rain threatened to damped spirits.

Culture Club

As with so many performances at Guildford this year Culture Club gave a great show. They played some new songs like 'I Just Wanna Be Loved', but concentrated their set on the old classics: 'It's a Miracle', 'Do You Really Want to Hurt Me', 'Church of the Poisoned Mind' etc. They also played the Bowie classic 'Star Man' which went down really well with the crowd.

Culture Club

The audience danced and reminisced, cheered and laughed at George's witticisms. At the end he said, 'A lot of people fucking hate this song, but a lot of people bought it', laughed uproariously and launched into 'Karma Chameleon'. The crowd loved it, cheering even more. The night ended on this note and the crowds appeared to go home or back to their tents with smiles on their faces, looking forward to another day of music ahead.
