The Feeling showcase music that sparks at Glastonbury Abbey ExtravaganzaGlastonbury Abbey Extravaganza 2008 ReviewTuesday 19th August 2008 The weather may have been wet to start with but, as Saturday evening's entertainment began just before 8 o'clock, the sound of support act Kate Nash lifted the rain clouds.  Forty minutes later, after a quick change of equipment and sound check, The Feeling took to the stage lifting the kagool-clad crowd from their seats. Most of who looked like they had consumed their champagne and home-made salads while waiting for the rain to abate. Smartly dressed in silk shirts and skinny jeans, the boys could have been mistaken for another factory-made boy-band, but as soon as their opening song, 'Fill My Little World', started the words seemed appropriate. Their vocal and musical talent clearly showed that they certainly are no boy-band! They played much of the chart-topping songs from their first album 'Twelve Stops and Home' followed by a trio of songs from their new album, all of which had the crowd dancing and singing along! Towards the end of the set it seemed that the boys wanted to give us a taste of their own 'Get Up and Party Karaoke Songs' and treated us to a spectacular rendition of the classic 80's disco-style anthem by A-Ha, 'Take On Me'.  Chatting with the crowd between songs made us feel that The Feeling were very much enjoying their second time at Glastonbury this year. They even apologised at one point in the set in case they sounded a little ropey. Apparently, the gig was in the middle of a stag weekend and they had spent the previous day Go-Karting as well as... well, whatever a group of lads would get up to on a stag night out! All I can say is if they sound that good after a heavy session, keep up the partying, fellas! Later they treated us again to another golden oldie, The Buggles' 'Video Killed the Radio Star'. That certainly separated the men and the women from the boys and the girls! Looking around, the crowd was filled with those old enough to remember – and possibly know better – singing, laughing and dancing like children. The set was brought to a riotous close by a classic for the older boys in the crowd: The Beastie Boys’ 'Fight For Your Right' and defiantly proved that The Feeling fancy themselves as a bit of a 'Jo Whiley Live Lounge' band! After a fourteen song set, the five-piece BRIT award-nominated British band from Sussex showed that they are clearly no boy-band but a bunch of friends and brothers with a flare for music that sparks. As they left the stage we definitely felt those sparks as the spectacular firework display sadly brought Glastonbury Extravaganza 2008 to a close! review by Louise Birbeck photos by Gareth Graham |
