Glastonbury Festival 2000 reviews Fri 7th Jul 00 Death
In Vegas Having never seen DIV live I was half expecting to hear a verbatim reproduction of The Contino Sessions and was wondering whether they had persuaded Iggy Pop to do the vocals to Aisha. But DIV completely blew me and the rest of the sizable crowd away with a completely different sound. Illuminated by the orange glow of the setting sun, the Other Stage looked like it was in for something special. DIV pulled no punches, driving every song with a pounding big beat. Opening with Flying, the beat got the crowd moving, but it was the driving, almost grinding, guitar sound that pushed the set along, helped by the odd blast from some wicked horns in a couple of numbers. The radical reworking of their album tracks often made it difficult to identify them (frankly we were too busy getting on with enjoying it to make notes) but they definitely finished with Dirge with a guest vocalist providing the haunting la la las. The perfect warm up for Leftfield and a personal vow to go and see DIV again at the earliest opportunity. review by Pete Smith
