GFest - CANCELLED 2012

GFest 2012 will not take place this year due to lack of funding support, but plans to return in 2013.

A statement from organisers says:

"Regretfully, GFEST-Gaywise FESTival, recognised as London's only LGBTQI cross arts Festival, will not take place this year (2012) due to lack of funding support.

As a result of funding shortage we have to take the unprecedented step of announcing that GFEST will not take place this year. This has been a difficult decision to make and it is with sad heart that we do so in order to avoid any potential negative impact on the artists. The majority of our options to secure any additional grant support, commercial and corporate sponsorships were also met with limited or no response.

We are committed to other existing planned events and will carry on presenting them over the next few months. We will also continue in our efforts to keep operations going smoothly and work on new fundraising options to strengthen the future course. We hope GFEST will return back in 2013. We would like to thank all the artists / filmmakers who submitted their work for the festival this year and are extremely sorry to cause any inconvenience to them. We are keen to work with the artists & filmmakers in future wherever an opportunity presents.

We recognise and value the support extended by number of community members, venues, funders, partners and all the artists who made the last 5 years of festival activities exciting and memorable, despite the enormous funding challenges in the last three years.

Thank you all for your kind and generous support. We hope we will be able to work with the artists in different ways and that the torch will be carried on by others presenting the talented LGBTQI artists and practitioners excellent work."

GFest – Gaywise Festival, 'London's LGBT and queer cross - annual art festival for all', takes place over two weeks from Monday 12th to Sunday 24th November 2012. The festival focuses on three categories covering Short Films, Visual Arts and Performances. Complimenting the programme are a series of talks, debate and parties. A platform for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and queer artists. It is produced and organised by arts charity Wise Thoughts.

There are no acts confirmed yet for 2012.

The festival focuses on three main categories covering Short Films, Visual Arts and Performances. Complementing the programme are a series of workshops, participatory theatre, debate and parties.

The festival has been seen as hugely successful art event where thousands of Londoners enjoy and benefit from the showcase of emerging and established gay talent.

Venues

This year the festival will take place across various London venues including The Dreamspace Gallery, Prince Charles Cinema, The Cockpit theatre and Rich Mix amongst other venues.

Accommodation

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
