The event which sprang up when Oxford Folk Festival was cancelled. The community led Folk Weekend returns for a fifth year from Friday 17th until Sunday 19th April 2015 and will be based again at the Old Fire Station, with additional events in other venues throughout the city centre.

A weekend of Morris dancing, concerts and performances, a host of free song and music events, and a huge ceilidh.

Line-up

Latest additions Fabian Holland, John Spiers (patron), the Askew Sisters, Kismet, Kings of the South Seas, Kelly Oliver, Sue Brown & Lorraine Irwing, Jenkinson's Folly, Skeptics, Man Choir, and Nostos.

The first acts confirmed are Chris Wood, Lady Maisery, Jackie Oates, The Hut People, Boldwood, The Patsy Reid Band, Moore Moss Rutter, Threepenny Bit, Ninebarrow and The Rheingans Sisters.

There will also be plenty of informal music sessions around the town - some programmed, some not! There will be details and a map of session pubs in the printed programme.

The early bird offer has ended. A season ticket is priced at £57 (£52 concessions). Youth (aged 13 to 18 years) tickets are £48, a child (aged 5-12 years) is priced £40, and children aged 4 or under can attend free, day and individual concert tickets are also available.

Makaton

Director Cat Kelly announced a new project focused on improving accessibility to music for people who have communication difficulties. Supported by grants from the Oxfordshire Community Foundation and Folk Camps Society, the project will use Makaton – a communication tool using signs, symbols, and speech – alongside traditional folk songs, with the aim of making them accessible to a wider audience.

Expect a return of the Village Fête, crafts workshops, Morris dancing and performances, a Children’s Festival, storytelling, singing workshops, Morris dancing workshops, a family ceilidh. There will be free performances, workshops and informal music sessions.

Accommodation is available at B&Bs, caravan and campsites in and around the city of Oxford.
