The fifth annual FolkEast festival takes place from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st August returning to the 300 acres of parkland site at Glemham Hall, in Suffolk.

Line-up

A unique collaboration between Peter Knight and John Spiers on the opening night. Plus Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band, Usher’s Island, Blowzabella, The Young'uns with Aldeburgh Young Musicians, Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys, Martin Newell & The Hosepipe Band, Belinda O'Hooley & Heidi Tidow, Andy Cutting, The Willows, Jess Morgan, Solana, Grace Petrie, Tred, Ross Couper & Tom Oakes, Attila the Stockbroker, Chris Wood, Andy Irvine, Topette!!, Georgia Shackleton Trio, Rura, Moore Moss Rutter, The Hut People, Sam Carter, Tir Eolas, The Roaring Trowmen, Daoiri Farrell, Gilmore and Roberts, The Swing Museum, Dan Walsh, Luke Jackson, Effra, John Dipper & Dave Malkin, Shorelark, Broadside Boys, Daisy Vaughan, Bof!, The Proper English, and Monty's Maggot.

Its six stages include St Andrew’s Church, the open air Sunset Stage and the hidden woodland Soapbox Stage which is run entirely by solar power from a double decker bus.

Plus Morris dancing from Ouse Washes, Mortimer's Morris, The Witchmen, Harlequin, Anstey, Golden Star, Pretty Grim, and The Thameside Mummers. Other attractions are sessions, walkabouts, storytellers, foragers pigeon pluckers, an instrument makers' festival, the FolkEast Art Arcade, donkey rides, children’s activities, yoga, poetry, storytelling, foraging walks and talks, horse drawn carriage rides and tours of Glemham Hall by Major Philip Cobbold himself.

Early bird tickets have sold out, tickets are priced at £115 for an adult ticket with camping, or £65 for those aged 13-17 years, plus booking fees. Children aged 12 years and under can attend for free. An early bird family ticket for 2 adults and 2 youth is priced at £320. Campervan passes are priced at £25. Day tickets will be available at a later date.

Festival patrons are Teesside-based trio The Young’uns who will work with FolkEast to promote folk music as a living tradition and will perform a special patron’s set at each future event.

The festival also offers ceilidhs, Morris teams, song, dance and instrument workshops, sessions, mardling marquees, local ales & fine food as well as a vintage tea tent, storytelling, traditional craft & art stalls and demonstrations, a fire sculpture garden that fires up at night and plenty of opportunities for children and adults alike to join in. Over the weekend you can take a break from the festival and walk or cycle to the local pub where more entertainment will be provided.

Please note that dogs are not allowed on the site and campfires are prohibited.

And this year’s event will see the return of Instrumental, a festival within a festival. Bigger and better for 2016, it will bring together some of the country’s top instruments makers. Standing out on site with a 10’ high steel guitar at the entrance it will see top craftsmen from Wales, Kent, Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire and beyond bringing along anything from bagpipes, fiddles and even banjos made from biscuit tins!

Getting there

Glemham Hall is just north of Ipswich and is easily accessible by road and rail. A shuttle service will operate between the site and Wickham Market Railway Station.
