The Cheltenham Music Festival is a huge summer celebration of live classical music with events ranging from free family workshops and young artists’ projects, through to concerts from well-loved performers and the promotion of contemporary composers.

The Festival has developed over sixty-two years, and as well as orchestral, chamber, choral and solo music, the festival also boasts education and community projects, a series for young musicians and a lively Fringe, including dance, world music and more.

This year, Festival Director, Martyn Brabyn, has chosen to promote a big and bold American theme, highlighting the diversity of American music. The opening night concert features the BBC Concert Orchestra playing favourites from Copland, Bernstein and Barber, with soloists Nancy Gustafson and Chloë Hanslipand and there are also performances from Kim Criswell and Wayne Marshall performing Broadway hits in cabaret. Other performers include: pianist, Marc-André Hamelin; Paul Lewis; Dame Felicity Lott; Sir Willard White; Jonathan Lemalu; and Susan Gritton plus chamber music recitals from the Belcea Quartet, Florestan Trio, Natalie Clein and Kathryn Stott.

Events take place in a variety of venues including the Town Hall, the Pittville Pump Rooms, various local churches, Tewkesbury Abbey and the Everyman Theatre.
