The Brighton Festival of World Sacred Music (BFWSM), is now in its fifth year, and aims to make a significant contribution towards greater understanding between people of different cultures and belief systems through 5 days of sacred music from around the globe.
High quality local, national and international artists are represented from a diverse and eclectic range of traditions including: Tibetan Buddhist chanting; Gospel a cappella; Jewish klezmer; Indian ragas; African percussion; and Sufi song.
This year's East theme will include international artists such as the Kala Chethena Kathakali Group from south India, Sufi Whirling Dervishes, Japanese Buddhist Monks and local Brighton talent. To buy tickets for individual events, click here.
Festival goers should also expect street performances; last year this included a family walk to the Chattri Memorial on the South Downs with music by Hindu and Sikh musicians; a multi-faith Children's Parade; and The Clerks' Group performing The Play of Daniel (joint promotion with Brighton Early Music Festival.
The core of the festival features a programme of evening and lunchtime concerts, workshops and community events that take place in some of the many beautiful sacred spaces around the city.
There's also an outreach programme of performances and workshops in schools, hospitals and prisons. Last year, following an extremely successful pilot workshop, they ran the first mini-festival in Lewes Prison!
