Kids' Stuff

The Children's Area is run by the Majical Youth Theatre Company, the Children's Area is open ended, with fair rides like swingboats, gyroscopes, mystic swing, trampolines down one side and stalls and tents housing workshops down the other. The area also has a climbing frame, and the central space hosts street theatre, impromptu gigs, displays, and more.

The Children's Area opens from 10am until 1pm and from 2pm until 6pm, although the rides often stay open until the sun sets. There's loads on offer, silly games, circus skills, Escot Education rural crafts and activities, performance, flea circuses, Jan's Van with games, and theatre (shows and times are on blackboards).

The field is awash with wandering mermaids, pirates, dragons, aliens and the like. The field also plays host to fire juggling displays, facepainting, a wealth of craft workshops from pottery to wickerwork, rockets, flags, kites, wool crafts, and more (some do incur a charge for materials).

There is of course also a children's parade on the Sunday.

Toddlers

There's a small sandpit for little ones, a toddlers tipi and coral zone, a nappy exchange, parent toddler activities, some simple toys, and a free play area. The stalls, and village shop near the kids area are also useful for hot milk, orange juice, and other useful supplies. The area for the kids space is a large one and easily traversable by a buggy even in mud. There are also plenty of toilets in the area.

Teenagers

Beautiful Days also has activities for teenagers each year. There's been a chill out tent, DJ workshops, T-shirt making, late night poker sessions, temporary tattoos, dressing up, body art, hair and nail makeovers, beat boxing workshops, and some youth relevant debates. There's also been opportunities to meet the bands, some heavywight wood crafts, dance workshops, theatre, cooking sessions, and outdoor sports including a mass kick about against the Levellers' own celebrity football team.

The compactness of the enclosed site means that pre-teenagers can also enjoy the children's area, sample the comedy and spoken word, take in a band or two, and enjoy a bit of freedom, although it's advisable that parents either provide a mobile, or arrange to meet up at set times.

Lost Children

The festival asks parents to write their mobile numbers on their children's wristbands on entry to the festival, just in case they get separated from their child. The site is very compact, so this is not hugely likely. However, with so many tents from theatre, and circus, to arts, rides, and crafts, children can get misplaced. As the children's area is a big open space there is a possibility they can wander off to look at something else, such as the street theatre which can generate big crowds. Lost children are always taken to the Lost Kids area which is located near the Main Arena, and missing adults or children announcements are also made from the stages, should the need arise.
